Bringing History to the Classroom
If you are teaching young children about their past, you will know how useful it is to have objects on hand. Store in the Sutherland Shire Museum are a myriad of objects and photos that show how people lived in the 'olden days.'
For example there is the Shoe Last – does anyone know how that was used? Then there are the Chamber Pots – no need to explain! We also have Irons which needed to be heated on the wood fire stove before pressing clothes. And lots more!
We know kids find these objects fascinating, and more importantly they act as powerful tools to illustrate how changing technologies have effected lifestyles.

The Sutherland Shire Historical Society loves to share the wealth of resources held at our Museum with teachers and students. While we are always keen to welcome school visits to the Museum, we have also put together Loan Boxes for teachers to borrow and use in their classroom. What's more, we can put together boxes to order, depending on your topic.
Below are examples of Loan Boxes we have prepared for Primary School Classes. The cost is $10 each box to borrow.
